In this section, I will introduce a variety ways I propagate gasteria and haworthia, mainly truncata and maughanii.
1. PARTIAL TOPPINGCutting a plant horizontally into 2 pieces, top and bottom, leaving some leaves attached to the bottom part. The top part can be re-rooted easily. The bottom part will grow several pups. I use this method to propagate most of my maughanii, truncata and pumila.@ |
2. WHOLE TOPPINGCutting off the whole plant that is above the ground, leaving the roots growing. In almost all cases, this will result in multiple props.@ |
3. LEAF PROPAGATION METHODThis is the least risky propagation method. Remove as many older, mature leaves as you want from a clone. Dry the leaves for a couple weeks. Stick the leaf to slightly moist soil. After as early as a couple weeks, it will start to root. @ |
4. ROOT PROPAGATION METHODThis method works well for haworthias with thick roots. I do a lot of root props with maughanii and truncata as I feel that they are easier than leaves. @ |
